TIMOTHY HORN

Timothy Horn was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1964.
He studied glass and sculpture at the Canberra School
of Art before receiving his MFA at the Massachusetts
College of Art in 2004.
Horn's early work involved research into historical jewelry.
From source material and engravings, he developed large
patterns to realize these works at the scale of chande-
liers. He is interested in jewelry’s intimate and personal
associations related to the body, and the point at which
beauty becomes vulgar. These works formed a series
titled “Watersports,” which refers to fluids, bodily and
other.
He then began working with translucent, honey-
colored rubber, creating works inspired by the embellishes
in the drawings from Thomas Chippendale's sketchbooks
of the mid 18th century. His most recent works, made
with silicone rubber and fiber optics, are large-scale
jellyfish 'chandeliers' based on the illustrations of the 19th
century German zoologist, Ernst Haeckel.
