In my work I'm exploring the issues of space and
time,
including cyberspace and virtual time. I use the medium of
paint for its ability to materialize ideas and objects, to
invent through accident as well as intention, to organize
and manifest chaotic impulses. My paintings deal with
how we process thought and understand our environ-
ment, be it urban or natural. They incorporate abstracted
figurative and architectural elements as well as letter-
forms and references to music, literature and art history.
They are journeys informed by the infinite complexity of
being. Paint gives these ideas material form and texture,
and provides me with the greatest scope and freedom for
their exploration.
In the last few years I've been making computer anima-
tions that begin with my finished paintings. Working in
both paint and digital media allows me to explore the
unique properties of each as well as their relationship to
each other. Like the paintings, the animations are improv-
isations, each decision generating the next.
