JOSÉ ANTONIO SUÁREZ LONDOÑO

Colombian artist José Antonio Suárez Londoño is eternally sketch-
ing his world on paper. Using pencil, pen and gouache, he persis-
tently fills irregular pages to their very edges with a charming
variety of observations and investigations.

Individually, the works gain inspiration from art, history, science,
music, and textiles. Each a new take on the world, they are some-
times familiar, often personal and always demonstrate the artist’s
modesty before his craft.

Together they create a body of work that relate like pages of a
book. But Londoño’s story is one with no beginning and no end.
There are only moments, as evidenced in the way he dates his
work with numbers on the left and right of most pages. They
note, from the time of the drawing’s completion, the number of
days having passed and the number of days remaining (respect-
ively) in a given year. These numbers, much like the man drawing
them, embrace a present where the past and future find their
meeting place.
